OUR HISTORY

HOME // OUR HISTORY

In 2013, a small homeschool co-op was established with a clear mission: to provide an alternative educational environment that catered to the specific needs of neurodivergent children within the community. Rooted in a commitment to faith-based education and Christ-centered values, the co-op sought to create a learning environment where every child could flourish academically, socially, and spiritually.

As the co-op gained traction and demonstrated success in its approach, it naturally evolved into a full-fledged school. This evolution was driven by the demand for a supportive and inclusive educational environment that not only accommodated neurodivergent children but also welcomed neurotypical students. The school's commitment to its faith-based principles and Christ-centered approach remained steadfast throughout this transformation, serving as the foundation for its mission and values.

Practical adaptations, such as individualized learning plans and tailored teaching methods, became fundamental aspects of the school's ethos. These adaptations were designed not only to address the unique learning styles and challenges of each student but also to instill a sense of spiritual growth and development.

Central to the success of the school was its grassroots approach, which prioritized community engagement and input. By listening to the needs and feedback of families, educators, and stakeholders within the community, the school was able to refine its practices and better serve its students in accordance with its faith-based mission.

Today, FCA stands as a beacon of hope for families with neurodiverse children in Galveston and Harris County. Offering a wide range of services, including specialized education, therapeutic support, and faith-based care, FCA is dedicated to fostering a safe, inclusive, and Christ-centered environment for all students.

The school's experienced team of educators, with over 100 years of collective expertise in special education, is specially trained in Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), integrating faith-based principles into their therapeutic approach. This evidence-based model is designed to support children and families who have experienced emotional or physical trauma, further enhancing the school's ability to meet the diverse needs of its students while nurturing their spiritual growth.

Importantly, FCA is committed to alleviating the financial burden for families seeking quality faith-based neurodiverse education. By offering scholarships and financial assistance programs, the school ensures that all families have access to the support and resources they need to help their children thrive spiritually, academically, and emotionally.

Overall, FCA's journey from a modest homeschool co-op to a specialized school underscores the transformative power of grassroots initiatives in creating responsive, community-driven, and Christ-centered educational spaces. By adapting educational practices to the unique needs of individual learners and integrating faith-based principles into its approach, FCA has demonstrated the potential for positive change at a local level, inspiring hope and empowerment within the community.
